A funny thing happen to me last week. I made a terrible mistake when I sold my 914/6 but it did go to a good home and it is being used and enjoyed. Much as I love my tractor it is not quite the same when our Regional Organiser puts on a run around mid Wales – we would probably miss out on the lunch stop! And so we started to think about another Porsche car, possibly something with a cage so that I could spend my retirement doing a few hillclimbs, but it must be a 356.
We went to a Motorhome show at Shepton Mallet the wrong weekend(old age) so ended up at Wiscombe hillclimb with some PCGB members (bad influence). When I got home it was straight to the computer to search for a hillclimb car. Two days later a well known Porsche expert and garage owner telephoned to see if I would like to buy a “Guards red 911 Super Sport Cab” – I was stunned for a moment – not my old car? Crispin said “well, it is a guards red super sport cab and you won’t find many of those in the country”. This car saw me through my Chairmanship of the Club, some 80,000 miles, and when I became an ordinary member again Crispin sold it for me. That was over seven years ago and now it was for sale again, there could only be one answer.
The owner, Paul Dart, had only added an additional 5000 miles to the clock and had looked after the car very well. In fact I would say it is in better condition now than when I sold it with only the leather needing a good scrub. I think Paul was very pleased to see it go back to the previous owner and Crispin quite moved.
Sally and I are delighted and feel somehow respectable again.
